Default Eating as a family...the saga continues!!!

OMG, what a disaster!!!!
I was so looking forward to sitting as a family to eat but it just didn't work for us! First of all LO thought it was great to have mummy's full attention at lunch time (sitting at the table) and spent the whole time showing me how far she could throw her sandwich and how much she could fit in the highchair seat whilst sitting in it! So, no food eaten at lunchtime.

Spent most of the afternoon preparing tonights food but by 5.30pm when we sat down to eat (all excited again!!), Molly was far too tired and cried the whole time! Again no food eaten and I got so stressed out worrying that she would go to bed hungry that I was snapping at OH and we ended up argueing!!

Not sure what to do for the best, I know it takes time for LO to adjust but I really do worry when she doesn't eat and I know I'll give in if she doesn't eat properly tomorrow. On my last post someone said they feed their LO a bit earlier so that they are not over hungry/tired but they are still eating/sitting in highchair when mummy & daddy eat and they join in with finger foods - that sounds like a good idea as a starting point just so Molly can get used to sitting with us to start with. Hopefully as she gets older she'll be able to eat a bit later.

Sorry to go on again, on a positive note LO has been walking loads today. Just now she walked from me across the room to daddy - I nearly cried I was so proud!

P.S. Thanks for all your advice on eating as a family xxxxxx

Aww sorry it didnt go so well, but if you keep doing it, she will adjust. If she is too tired in the evening feed her early and give her little finger foods when you eat like raisins we do this at times. Just keep going, she will get it eventually. xx

Isabella has very little at teatime but eats loads in the day so I tend not to make a fuss. I put it down to tiredness but it could be because I just sit at the table and nibble rather than eat with her.

Regarding the whole sitting at the table thing my Mum works in a school and it constantly shocked at how few children are used to eating at a table. We were never allowed to eat from trays/in front of tv when we were young as my Mum felt really strongly about it.

We had one of Isabella's little friends round for lunch today and she always eats better when her little pals are sat at the table with her. Although somedays it is just one big foodfight...

i think unless your lo can feed themselves, its almost impossible to all eat a "meal" together, if you're still having to spoon feed, you don't eat your food (& its goes cold). if you feed lo first, then you eat yours, they fidget too much in the high chair.

I would just keep trying , maybe eat with her lunchtime but just have a nibble at tea time so she eat earlier...

if its a new thing for her she will take a while to get used to it... i find it best ignoring the food throwing type behavoiurs and praise her when she does well...

goodluckxxx
