Default Won't sit still to eat

any ideas?
LO nearly 1, has been difficult eater due to allergies so food has been rice, rice and more rice and polenta ... heavily on formula and little on food and snacking .. when I do put her in high chair she carries on screams and refuses to sit and eat .. i have tried leaving her there only to have her dry reach and carry on and even vomit the food out and another time I had to tip her upside down b/c she got so worked up was choking... so yes I know it is wrong .. have started chasing her with food and spoon only b/c she had lost weight is small for her age, etc and want to make sure she's getting something into her ... I am creating a rod for my own back b/c it is getting impossible ... am thinking maybe when she's a bit older it will be easier bc I will be able to reason with her more than now .. I just want to eat and will do whatever I can to get the little that she eats into her ... not the answer but would u recommend

It must be hard on you, the only thing I can suggest is try and make meal times fun time, try and distract her by making noises, Im not much help but give it a go xxx

What about having a 'picnic' on the floor? I have done this when Alexander had a bad cold & refused to eat,i put a sheet on the floor & just put lots of different finger foods out & he ate bits of it,it might be easier for you & make mealtimes a bit more fun for your lo.

that's worth a try .. have got nothing to lose ... she likes to eat and walk .. missy started walking at 9.5 months and has been on the go since ... sleeps little, eats little, burns off lots = very little weight gain ! thanks again the picnic may do the trick.

how about moving the high chair into the sitting room in front of the telly. Or can she sit in a normal dining chair (strapped in) or on one of those travel seat thingies. When Freddie screams in his high chair, i just get him out & let him eat dinner sitting on the floor next to me. seems to work. best of luck xx

Is she eating her meals when you eat yours or are you feeding her separately? I always find that Ethan eats better when we eat as a family and he is just left to his own devices to feed himself.

Hope things improve for you really soon!

I agree with Ellie about the social aspect of eating. Are there any similar aged babies you could invite round for lunch? She might be more receptive to the highchair if she sees another baby sat in one.

Noa has started the screaming now about the highchair. She wants to sit in a real chair by the table.

In the mornings I can still get her into the chair. I take off the tray and she climbs up herself and then she lifts her hands up so I can put the tray on. The other meals-she has been screaming and wanting to sit at the table. Pain in the bum really!

thanks everyone .. I think i have created a rod for my own back as they say .... b/c she was so picky with food and had to get something into her .. i used to chase her with the bowl and spoon ... now for her it is normal and i am stuck with this .. and am fed up ... have tried picnicing and have tried sitting with her older bro, nearly 4, she has 3 teaspoons then she hops down from her chair to go off and be a Ms Busybody and do something else ... unless I bite the bullet and put her in teh highchair if she carries on and refuses to eat I say ' tuff titties' and just feed her later when she will sit still .. she is nearly 1 so she knows what's going on just does the usual drama queen scenario ... God give me strength !
