Default sandwiches

Hi. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about how to get my 16 month old to eat sandwiches? He does well eating other things, but when we're on a family day out, I cant whip up a plate of veg for lunch!!! He just refuses to have anything to do with sandwiches (except toast!) Thanks in advance

This probably sounds disgusting, but have you tried making sandwiches out of toast and taking them? For a while Harley wouldn't eat regular sandwiches, but he would eat ones made out of toast even when they'd gone cold, so I just made ones out of toast and took them

Jess wasn't a big fan of sandwiches but if I use one of my cutters to cut out the sandwich she will eat, she now asks for teddy bear sandwiches.

Molly's gone off sandwiches too, she used to love them and have them for her tea regularly with different fillings. Sorry no ideas how to get your LO to eat them as I am struggling too!!!!!!!!

Get a few cookie cutters and let him choose what shapes. We got a tub of 100 plastic cookie cutters as a gift one Christmas. A pain for storing, but great because I can mix and match my little guy's choice. He does usually choose the car and the truck. I also take off the crust and will give him the parts of the sandwich that aren't in the cutter and he usually will eat those as well once he gets going. Gotta try different sandwich fillings, maybe you'll come up with a winner.

Oh, and kids usually hate crust so best to cut it off before hand to make it more appealing. Make it as appealing as possible right away, before you put it in front of him. If no cookie cutters, cut in 4 on the diagonal. It is easier for them to pick up and eat. If you have extra time and like to be creative, you could also try making ribbon sandwiches and pinwheel sandwiches. A co-worker used to make those for her kids lunches all the time. You need a loaf sliced horizontally for good pinwheels though.

Just some ideas. Good luck!

cookie cutters are definitely the way to go - only way Tilly will eat them!

she also likes weird fillings - like dairylea and marmite (together). I don't butter these as are moist enough

xx
