Default Eating promblems.HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,

I have a fussy 13 old month eater. At the moment he won't take any of the food i cook him.Every time the spoon goes towards his mouth ,he firmly shuts it.So all he is eating is chesse, yougurts, crackers, bread and friut. He has never been a good eater but this is not normal and if course i am worrying like mad and wasting so much food. When he was eating the food i would still give him chesse etc afterwards as i have always been worried about his weight as he is small but not underweight. So now i think he knows if he refuses his food he gets what he wants anyway.Do you think he is too young to offer the food and if he does'nt take not to give him anything else??Has any one tried this and it has worked??

Hi,

Welcome to the site.
My daughter is just over one and is extremely fussy!! Up until last week she would only eat fish and that went on for 2-3 months. I've gradually got her to have a couple of different things but it's a struggle all the way!

Have you tried giving your LO meals that he can eat with his fingers? From the age of about 8-9 months Molly hasn't eaten any meals from a spoon, she totally refuses (although she'll eat breakfast and puddings off a spoon - strange!). I give her things like fishcakes, fish fingers, beef & potato croquettes, veggie sausages (all homemade) and all served with potatoes/sweet potatoes & veg. At tea-time she'll have things like sandwiches, omelette, eggy bread, toast, cheese on toast etc as well as yoghurt & fruit. If your LO will eat cheese & bread etc then just maybe he will try other things with his fingers?

Also, maybe your LO is teething. That is when Molly first refused to use a spoon anymore, once the tooth came through she still refused!

I personally have never tried not giving her anything else when she refuses as I just worry too much! It's probably my downfall but I would rather make something else just so I know she's not hungry.

Hope the above has helped, keep us posted with how it goes.

xxx

Hi Igglesam

My lo is 18 months now and she went through the same sort of thing when she was about the same age as your lo, i just gave her a spoon and allowed her to feed herself, the first few times hardly anything went in her mouth and she really did not eat much, but gradually she was shovelling it in, and now she just sits in her chair and as long as i allow her to feed herself she eats almost anything i put in front of her (except egg!!!).

Hope that helps

Priti x

I really sympathise with you, Logan is the same age as your LO and I'm having exactly the same problem. Although he is teething at the moment and I'm hoping he'll start to eat a bit better once the tooth comes through. He's eating similar things to your LO and won't have a proper meal, it just seems like snacks all the time. So I've been giving him more milk to try to make up for the food he is missing out on and so he doesn't go hungry but it's hard to know if this will backfire and he'll continue to want the milk once the tooth comes through! I'm sorry I can't help, it's so hard, I understand how you feel. I just keep trying him with things and keep hoping that he'll eat soon! xo

hi there. its bloody awful isnt it. my LO is being a right bugger at the minute and seems to be surviving on jam sandwiches or scrambled egg on toast (she is 14 months old) to make maters worse my OH keeps flapping saying helpful things like "if she doesnt eat a proper dinner she shouldnt be having sandwiches for tea!!!" Aarrgh. could slap him sometimes. it is a worry i think you have to just try to go with the flow a little - even though we all worry ourselves sick and are convinced we are doing wrong! good luck to us all in this situation. xx
