Mine are usually along the sides of my neck and as rachaelmae said, usually when I have a cold or something. I did have a persistent swollen one once (actually could feel it under the skin- it was slightly smaller than a pea- really weird). Had a doctor check it out and he said that it sometimes happens and it would go down. It did in a few days. Freaked me out though.

That said, some medical conditions can present themselves with swollen glands. If you don't have a cold or something else to explain it, or it keeps up for a while, probably good to get a doctor to check it out.

what's going on? Allergies can also cause them, but if you are worried and don't have a cold, get them checked out-though they are probably nothing.

Lymph nodes get swollen when there is crud in the body that the body is fighting and they are cleansed out through the lymph nodes which get swollen the harder they work...

The glands in my neck (and groin) swell up when I'm run down or have a virus/cold. I go and get them checked out if I get worried.

Thanks everyone for replying.

I had a swollen gland so I have had a blood test to check for glandular fever, however I dont think I have this as I dont have anyother sympton.

The doc said if the tests are negative but the gland still up I might have to go to the hospital for a biopsy. I am now terrifed that I hve something really bad wrong with me.

The gland has gone down pretty much to nothing but if I stroke my neck I can still feel a slight raised area.
