The list
I sat down and made a list of veggies that I really ENJOY eating cold and raw. Now I'm going to post a copy on my fridge and I'm going to go to the shop and buy them all, and will try to keep them, washed and ready, in the fridge all summer.
If you're curious, my list is:
Red pepper strips
Celery
Cherry tomatoes
Cucumbers (cut in half, with some salt)
mange tout/pea pods (if they're not too stringy)
Carrots, cut into batons
Broccoli, if I can dip into something
I thought long and hard about it and realized that I don't really like salads, but I do like eating raw veggies on an individual basis, so this seemed like a good idea. Even when I have them around (and I often do), I forget they're there to be eaten. So hopefully having them washed and ready in the fridge, with a visible list posted on the ouside of the door, will help me to snack more healthily.
We'll see how it goes. Also bought green apples as I remembered that I love sliced green apples spread with peanut butter. Not a low-cal snack, but it does fill you up when you're really hungry.

Do you like techina? I can get you a recipe from a friend who makes it really good. You can dip your broccoli in that and it has lots of calcium.

Hmmm, that does sound odd, but then I eat coleslaw, which is raw cabbage, so maybe I should try it!!!

BTW-as a side point. If anyone suffers from joint pain-you really should not eat peppers, tomatoes, eggplants or mushrooms as they contain selenium which settles in the joint and causes joint pain.

You mean the sesame seed paste that is also spelled tahini? I find it unpalatable on its own, but would like to see your friend's recipe, because maybe she makes more of a tahini "dip," IYKWIM. I have some in the house for making hoummous.

You could try mixing it with yoghurt to lighten it up a bit to make a dip.
Susie - does that go for those veggies cooked and raw?
