I just got a set of the new Mam anti-colic bottles to try with the new baby. I like that you can sterilise them individually in the microwave without a sterilliser. We used Dr Brown bottles with the boys and thought they were great!

I spent out loads on Dr Brown's and they made no difference to Finlay at all. But TBH he was so bad, don't think anything would have worked.

Default Dr Brown bottles

Hiya,

Sorry but going against the grain on this one and bigging it up for Dr B bottles!

We bought them on the advice of the health visitor when our little one was really suffering and though it took a couple of weeks for him to get used to them, they really worked! It's not the first time I've heard this either.

We didn't have any leakage, fortunately, and they are a bit more of a faff to put together but as my hubby said, once I learned how to do it, I looked like a trained assassin putting together a weapon, lol!! Bit of an exaggeration but the aim really was to reduce the colic.

A few other tips that helped us:
- we made the bottles up according to guidelines so no sneaky made up bottles in the fridge in the morning, etc.
- Instead of shaking the bottle, we would swirl it, iykwim? it helps stop any air getting in
- we held the bottle at such an angle that the teat was completely full whilst feeding
- we held him upright for about 10 mins after the feed so that it properly digested
- we used infacol - jury's still out as to whether or not it worked but there were lots of burps and bottom burps which can't be a bad thing!
- we tried baby massage (there is a special anti colic massage you can do)

I honestly think all of these things helped rather than just one, but thought I'd share as within a few weeks of us adjusting as per above, he was much much better.

xx

PS. sometimes babies are diagnosed with colic when actually they might have reflux - perhaps worth checking that out with your GP?

Hey thanks for your advice. Olivia has reflux and also has lots of wind. She is on 3 medicines plus infacol. I think infacol helps Olivia.

I feed in an upright position
Keep her upright for 20-30 mins after feed
Wind regularly during feed
Make sure teat is full of milk

Dr will adjust her meds as she gains weight but it only helps for a short time. She went blue in the night, first time for a while

Default bottles

Hi,
I have used the Dr Brown bottles on my son. He is now 6 months old and I am still using them mainly out of habbit. One has leaked but the others are ok. He had a lot of trouble with colic and trapped wind when he was a newborn. I was up all night. The Dr brown bottles did help and I did notice a difference. Hope they work for you too.
