Seriously, where the chuff do these people come from, and more importantly where do they go to...?

Glad to see a bit of life on here even if it's going over the same old ground.

Oh to whoever was going to stick to Gina Ford's routine rigorously, please come back after you've given birth. If you've not hurled her book out of a window by 3 months, I'll give you tenner! .

Fussymum - Failed midwife?

As a working Dad who has occasionally relied on these forums for ideas and guidance, it disgusts me that all you can contribute is insults to others from behind your anonymous username. Until you have the courage to reveal your true identity and stop mud slinging, you are nothing more than a parasite on these pages. Why waste our time with your aimless posts trying to undermine those with the guts to stand up, with their true identity, and help others.

Who cares if AK and CBC make money from their books and DVD's? How else do you earn a wage to support these children that you spend so much time blogging about.

Sam - Portsmouth.

Wow! What a fun thread! Vitriol is always so entertaining.

I am genuinely curious to know what on Earth is fussymum's problem. Come on fussymum, let us in on the big secret. How has CBC put your nose out of joint? I'd like to say you look lovely when you're angry, but I suspect you just look sour!

As a new grandad I've seen this all before. Back in my day Jean Leidloff was all the rage and we all believed that carrying our babies all the time would let them grow up naturally according to The Continuum Concept. Oh the wonderful rows we had with our mothers, who all thought having our babies in bed with us was the worst possible thing to do. "What'll you do when you've got an 18 year old in bed with you?" they'd say - showing they'd completely missed the point.

When I was a baby in the late 1950s my mother's GP actually told her that as a busy mother of four, all under the age of 5, the best time to have her cigarette was when she was breastfeeding me. Can you believe it!?

Go further back still and it becomes shocking in other ways. Parenting manuals from the 1930s strongly suggest that a father should only ever see his children briefly when they are presented to him, washed and brushed, to say goodnight. The absolute maximum physical contact would be for him to pat them on the head.

And I challenge you to stay sane if you look through some of the baby advice handed out during the Victorian era!

All these fashions for styles of baby management always come and go. Gina Ford's ideas are nothing new. It has all been said before. And the breastfeeding debate will run and run forever. It all goes round in circles. Even Annabel's wonderful recipes are not, actually, all that startlingly new.

So come on fussymum, get off your high horse and RELAX. Be nice. Be friendly. Be helpful. Look for the best in people. Try to bring some happiness and positivity into your rather sad outlook. Thirty years from now CBC and GF may well have been replaced by other gurus who say precisely the opposite. But then again, perhaps not. Who knows? By the way, I suspect that really you do understand what CBC was getting at with her coca-cola comment - everyone else seems to understand it and I can't believe you're really quite so obtuse - deliberately misrepresenting her doesn't do you any credit at all, you know.

So there we go, everyone who has read this. Enjoy your lovely babies, whether you breastfeed or not, whether you stick to a rigid agenda or not, whether you carry them continuously and have them in bed with you or not. Watching them grow and develop and emerge with their own wonderful personalities and lives is truly the most marvelous thing to experience. Love them, listen to them and eventually let them leave. Then one day, just like me, you might be enjoying it all over again as a grandparent.

Good luck everyone. Happiness to you all.

Great post Whatgoesaround!

LOL at the smoking comment!! I suspect I have a neighbour who might be smoking and breastfeeding at same time. She smoked shamelessly while pregnant so wouldn't put it past her!!

Fussymum, you have yet again incensed me by your apparent ignorance. However I am posting this reply not to engage in conversation with you but to warn readers of this forum to be wary of your so called 'advice'. By your own admission you cite Google as your key source of information. I find this very concerning indeed. You provide what at first glance appears to be an informed argument in defence of the breast milk / tooth decay debate, however you do not provide a source for your findings and as I am pretty confident that you have no medical qualifications yourself I can only assume that this is the result of yet another google search. Am I correct?

I too can search on google and have come up with some interesting research to counter your argument. Please refer to: Columbia Commentary:<br />Breastfeeding and Tooth Decay, a Complex Issue
This is an American paediatric website which makes the point that they simply don't know for sure how breastmilk affects teeth. They therefore advise that older babies and children should not be fed breastmilk in between meals and at night, etc. unless the teeth are cleaned after each feed. I believe this was the point that Clare was making in the TV programme you refer to.

I am quite bemused as to why you feel yourself qualified to criticise and slander renownded experts in their field such as CBC. Clare IS a trained and qualified midwife and has a proven track record of success in helping countless mothers experiencing problems with breastfeeding (who very often go to Clare as a last hope after all else has failed, something that I can appreciate having been there myself). It is for this reason that I imagine Clare wrote her book as a guide to all the mothers out there who aren't in a position to pay for her services. I can only assume that your hatred of Clare is fuelled by jealousy and frustration at your own limitations.

As I said earlier, all you have achieved to do here is to promote CBC and discredit yourself. Bravo!

Mummy2b - I would like to wish you the best of luck with the upcoming birth of your baby and also with regards to establishing yourselves on Gina's routines. It's worth reading the book before the baby's arrival so you understand the theory and then once the baby is a couple of weeks old you can gently start getting into the timings Gina suggests. It can take a bit of getting used to, but have confidence in what you are doing and you and the baby will reap the rewards later. Six months on and I see the evidence every day to support our decision to follow CLB - it is well worth it.

SephiesMum - you owe me a tenner!
