I was just wondering if you could give me some much needed advice re stopping breast feeding now.
As most of you know Leo has a dairy allergy, and thats the biggest reason why i carried on for so long. He has oat milk with his cereal, and he will only drink alittle from a cup. A while back i tried him with a straw beaker, he did not improve his intake. He drinks water out of a spouted beaker and a normal cup well. I really wanted to let leo wean him self off, but he has weaned himself by taking alot less. But he still will bf before he goes to bed, wakes during night for boobie. In the late afternoon he sometimes asks for 'abit boobie' he says. but thats not everyday only if we are home, (not if we are out and about) I really would love some advice on the best or sucessful ways of stopping bf. Im just worried about his comfort too Thank you |

My little boy has a dairy allergy as well and also has oat milk. I bfed James till he was 19 months old. I gradually cut out feeds and replaced them with oatmilk in a cup or a little snack and water (e.g fruit or savoury cracker).
I dropped a feed at a time until I was feeding morning, evening and any wake ups. I then dropped morning and took him straight down for brekkie ...ie cereal with oat milk. Did this for a couple of months then moved on to dropping the evening feed....but when I did this I also dropped the wake ups. I won't lie to you it may be tough as he won't understand but you have to stick to your guns and just give him lots of cuddles......but keep your boobs well hidden!!!!! This was my second time as I breast fed my liitle girl till she was 14 months. For the evening feed dropping, I changed our evening routine slightly. With my little girl I took her downstairs for a drink of milk then took her upstairs for a cuddle on the rocking chair then put her to bed....when she was happy with this I started giving her a cup of milk upstairs and all was fine. With James I took him into his bedroom, read lots(!!!) of books then gave him oatmilkand lots of cuddles. When he woke in the night I offered him oatmilk or water in a tommee tippee cup and loads of kisses and cuddles. For the first few days the wake ups were hard because he would clearly be trying to bfeed but I knew it was only for comfort as my milk supply had dropped a lot by then. He soon got the message though and was fine. It can be hard but you will be fine. I am not some toughie by the way... I cannot leave my kids to cry...I was just determined to finish as I felt I was ready to stop and I knew he wasn't actually getting much milk as I no longer 'felt' the let down whilst feeding. Hope that helps Kathryn xxx |
