Hi All
I am a new member to this forum, I have 3 children who were all weaned using a mixture of babyled weaning and Annabel Karmel recipies. Some of her recipes have remained family favourites. The meatballs have become my speciality! (I add my own twist). I have registered today to express my sadness that Annabel has chosen to link up with Nestle. Nestle are well known for their disregard of infant feeding laws and guidances and their poor practice leads to many infant deaths in the third world. They have been the subject of an international boycott for many years. See Baby Milk Action for more information. I'm sure this post will be moderated and will not remain for much longer. but just felt a need to say. ANNABEL - I AM THOROUGHLY DISAPPOINTED! CG (RM) |

Have you seen Annabel's response?
Annabel Karmel & Nestle " It is evident that Nestle complies with the WHO International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk substitutes (1981) and is very sensitive to the challenges that confront mothers in developing countries. Further details are available at www.babymilk.nestle.com" Excellent news If Nestle say it's true then it must be. I wonder if Mike Brady knows he can tuck into his Smarties now? God knows, I'd love a Toffee Crisp. I hope I've not boycotted them for all these years for no good reason....... |

I think AK has lost the plot. Why would you associate with Nestle
![]() (for monetary gain I suppose) This forum has practically died since Panorama programme and associations with Nestle will be the nail on the coffin! Not a wise move Annabel! D |

I have joined for exactly the same reason. I am shocked that someone who proposes to support good child nutrition supports Nestle. Why would you do that? Oh hang on, maybe it's something to do with money? I can't believe some of the comments on Facebook "my children like the recipes, so we'll carry on buying AK".
Don't trip over that outsize conscience in the babyfood aisle. |

While I still think the recipe books are the best on the market, this isn't the first time we have questioned what she has done for monetary gain.....Remember the pop-ups on the site advertising fast food? Perhaps it is better to stay smaller and retain some moral diginity.
And to be honest, I would prefer a heart-felt, truthful explaination of why the decision to link with Nestle was made rather than the same old politician media speak. I do think that Panorama was a ridiculous piece of biased reporting but this link up has done nothing to help her reputation. However, apart from that programme, whenever I have seen her on tv, she does seem genuinely interested in promoting good food for children. So I am a little perplexed as to why she felt the need to make this link up. |

My problem is this:
You cant say your an advocate for child health THEN say Oh well my meals feed 2 portions (says no where on the box) thats why they are high in salt and if you dont add salt to a meal or sugars babies wont eat them?!??!? Whatttt you practice good purees no sugars etc that was panorama. then you decide to hook up with a company that supports slave labour, Formula milk (which isn't a bad thing) but is when your in a country with no clean water, and you give it for free until the mothers milk dries up THEN start charging for it. I could go on.. I am glad that shes backed away from that deal i know a lot money was lost for her but her self respect went up a bit. |
