Have been giving abbie solids for the last few weeks and she hasn't been very interested and is still showing no interest in a bottle or cup.
Anyway went to see HV this week as panicking about going back to work in 2 months and her sleeping still being dreadful and still only BF as i do long days so wouldn't be able to BF at all on days i worked. Anyway having been born on the 98th percentile she is now down to below the 25th percentile, more like the 20th. HV was pretty chilled about it but told me i need to keep feeding her in the night if she wakes (was hoping to start pulling back on these to encourage the sleep) he said i need to give 3 meals a day (am only doing breakfast and tea and breakfast is a bit of a joke as she doesn't eat anything) and try to get her to take more milk in the day and then eventually the sleep will follow. How can i get her to take more interest in food? Gave her some finger food the last couple of days and she seems more interested but obviously doesn't eat that much this way. |

thanks RM...just helps to know it will pick up.
considering we have pretty much done nothing different with izzy and abbie i can't believe how different they are just goes to show every baby is different. izzy loved her food from day 1, literally couldn't get enough and despite our sleep problems with her since she has been about 1, as a youngish baby she was an amazing sleeper like sleeping through from about 3 months. abbie - no food, no bottle, no sleep aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! |

hugs anna, try not to worry or stress (hard i know) might not be popular with most but what about offering her sweet foods, cooked carrot sticks, sweet pots etc and then petit filous, fruity porridge etc might get her more interested in foods

Hugs Anna. I too say just go with the flow and try not to stress too much. I was the opposite when Oliver was ready to wean as he was a really chubby baby & I was almost frightened to give him any solids for fear he would pop!! Ped kept assuring me he was healthy & just take lead from him which goes to show us mums are always worrying about something no matter what!! and HV didn't sound like she was worried at all. x

thanks everyone.
so the thing about doubling the birth weight by 6 months is that a myth...? she was 9lb 6oz at birth and so would need to be nearly 19lb by now to be close to doubling that, she is only 15lb 40z (so has gained just under 1lb a month since birth). and what about the tripling it between 9 and 12 months. That would mean she would need to gain over 12 pounds in the next six months..... Wasn't going to get hung up on the weight thing and percentiles and stuff but it is easily done...especially as my friend's 6 week old baby has gained nearly 3lbs already and i can see him over-taking Abbie in no time. |

I thought as a ROUGH guide most babies doubled their birth weight in a year. All babies are different weights so gain differently. Georgias consultant always told me to go on how they looked and as long as they gain over a period of time how ever slowly thats good
I did (still do) constantly worry about Georgias weight ![]() |
