Me again on breast feeding

Abbie has started to hurt me with her latch she is only latching on the end of the nipple and biting hArd with her gums. She had poor latch early on but been fine for ages so why is she doing this now? What can I do? Thanks.

Possibly chewing on anythiing & everything but no other signs she isn't opening her mouth v wide so isn't fully on weird why she's doing it now...

Have you tried putting more of it in iygwim, 'shape and shove!'
Try get latch right or you end up v sore.
Also use nipple cream now, might prevent soreness.

This might sound impossible, but don't let her have such a shallow latch. Every time she attaches like that, take her off. You could try the various teething treatments available for a wee bit before the feed. (The usual stuff, teething gel, calpol, ashton&parsons, cold flannel to suck on etc.)

You could try the shape and shove method lol and also try to encourage her mouth open wider by expressing a tiny amount of milk and gently rubbing her nose until she opens her mouth wide and tilts her head up.

Seriously, don't let her take a 'feed' by gnashing on your nipple. It will cause you pain, and it won't satisfy her at all. Both of these can lead to further problems...

Is there any way you could get to a breastfeeding group? They will be able to see what is happening and be able to help you adjust the position and attachment.

sounds like she's teething babe, rub some anbesol on her gums shortly before she has a feed maybe?? i don't know other than what Dara said about shoving more tit in her mouth

Poor nipples

livvys very lazy and has always done this when shes not so fussed with food, when small she used to bite my nippples with her gums when teething.. ouchy.

Try leaving it 5 min then trying again, ramming boob in, teething stuff... maybe a different position?

Thanks everyone. Well today she has one absolutely scarlet cheek so i think you were all right and she is teething....

I am doing my best to take her off when she goes on like that and try to open her mouth wider myself and shove as much in as i can. There is a BF group near me on a Friday not sure when it recommenses prob 8th Jan so will give that a go if still having problems.

much better thanks hun, i am certain it was teething but i am getting quite scared about the prospect of feeding her with teeth, am worrying already about getting bitten as a tooth can't be far off!
