Ladies - I am writing this post to encourage any of you who are struggling to feed. I have just had my 3rd child (1 week & 1 day!) and have had a real break through thanks to a book my husband brought home as our last resort. The book is called: "What to expect when you're breast-feeding...and what if you can't?" It's by Clare Byam-Cook.
Thanks to this book I discovered that I had thrush & have fought for the tablets to treat it (the SHO at the hospital refused to prescribe!) & they are starting to work. Thanks to this book I have repositioned my daughter time & time again in the pursuit of a better latch & I haven't given in. NOTE: The midwifes all said I had a good latch with all three of my girls!! NO I DIDN'T..! Thanks to this book I have recognised that my milk ducts are blocked & that I have been suffering from engorgement & I've been able to start the healing process. Thanks to this book I have discovered white nipple (something I had never heard of) & I am able to manage it & congratulate myself for working through it. Thanks to this book I have cracked breast feeding for the first time - shame my nipples had to crack first!! I feel as though the author has become my best & most sensible friend. She speaks from experience & that to me is invaluable... I urge anyone on the brink of giving up, all those of you in tears & literally screaming with the pain to get this book because you have nothing to loose & everything to gain. I have never before written on one of these sites - I have just joined specifically to share this news because I think it is so important. I wanted to share some hope in what I know can feel like the most hopeless of situations. xx |

Great that it worked for you - I really mean that. However, if you care to read previous marahon threads it is clear that it doesn't work for everyone and is not something a qualified breastfeeding counsellor or IBCLC Lactation Consultant would recommend. There are snippets of good advice in her book but there are also many potentially damaging recommendations.

I have just spent the past 10mins trying to work out how to add a photo of our beautiful baby onto the site, but clearly failed! Upsetting to think this is viewed as a sales pitch, it's absolutely not!!
I was so passionate and excited about being able to feed and felt compelled to share my experience with other mothers potentially experiencing similar problems. Quite surprising to see the negative responses. I guess some approaches work for some and not for others. In my case I had exhausted all regular avenues and found this book just at the right time. To reassure you, I am a ballet teacher and not somebody trying to sell a book (i.e. regular Mum who had very sore boobies!!) Kind Regards xx |

All I will say, is it seems that when any negative CBC posts crop up then it's not long till a "hey - have you heard about this" post follows. Not just on here, I hasten to add
![]() FlorenceRose - it's not for me to judge but a quick google of "Clare Byam Cook/bad advice/looney" should put you in the picture! |
