Hi all
I really want to bfeed my lo until she's 12 months (she's 10 months at the mo) and she shows no sign of wanting to give up yet - quite the contrary actually. However I'm keen to ttc. My lo took 6 years and I'm not getting any younger so I would like to get on with it .I know you can conceive while bfeeding but I think I'm right in saying fertility can be reduced and I need all the help I can get seeing as it took so long last time. My question is how do you go about discouraging them from the breast? She does drink from a cup but only sips and would have nowhere near enough if she didn't feed from the breast too. Will she just gradually take more from a cup over the next two months without me having to do anything? Any advice? Thanks |

I replaced bfs with the three main meals and water to begin with. Then mid-morning a snack (e.g toast/organix/fruit etc) and water and eventually same with mid afternoon. This was done by 8 months as returning to work
First thing in morning I gradually stopped by just feeing frm one side then shotening the feed to just taking her down for brekkie. This was done at around 13 months Evening one I reduced to feeding from one side then eventually replaced with cup of cows milk in cup with a straw and water if she wanted it. I did this downstairs to begin with to break the link between dressed for bed then into rocking chair for bfeed. After a week or so went back upstairs. Any get ups I only offered water and a cuddle. I conceived with James while Holly was 12 months so still bfeeding and wanted to stop as didn't want to bfeed while pregnant and also def did not want to be bfeeding two!!! Good luck! xx |
