Post Stopping Bedtime Bottle

Hi All

This is the first time i have sent a message and i was wondering if i could ask for some advice! My daughter Jess is 2 1/2 and still likes to have a bedtime bottle, she only has about 5ozs but we are starting to potty train and i was wondering if there were any hints or tips to help with this?

maybe give it to her in a beaker and just after she has her bath, then sit her on toilet and wait for her to have a wee (keep her entertained somehow) then carry on with the bedtime routine, story etc xx

Hi and welcome to the site! Not sure if you're asking for potty training advice or advice on stopping the bottle?

My little girl is also 2 and a half and is dry during the day but not at night; she's still in nappies and I'm not stressing about that TBH. She also still has milk at bedtime but she has it out of a 'cow cup'. She loves her bedtime milk so don't think we're ready to drop that yet either!

Maybe let her choose a special cup herself (princesses or favourite character etc) and tell her she'll get her special bedtime milk in the cup after dinner from now on.

She might accept it readily if you make it sound fabulous

I was thinking about this the other day too as my LO is 2 and 2 months and still has milk morn and eve.

She has started to stop drinking properly out of the bottle though and chews and messes with it though so this week we are going to go and buy a special cup for her milk and hope that works and I think I will just bin the bottles so there is no going back....Her new baby cousin is having a bottle and so I have been trying to make her think bottles are for babies.

is the bottle that you want to stop or the actual milk drink itself? As the others have said perhaps get her a special beaker cup (instead of a "bottle") & perhaps give it last thing before going up to bed, then you can brush teeth, get in jammies etc, do a wee & hopefully this new routine will break the Bedtime Bottle habit. hope this helps it worked for me over time. x

just to let you know since Sunday my LO has been drinking out of a cup and it was much easier transition than I thought. Made a big deal of baby's using bottle and big girls using a cup. And she just did it (although it isn't a completely free flow beaker still one that requires a slight suck but a step in the right direction I thought).

Now she says "No bot-bot, bot-bot for babies, I not baby"

She is having a bit less milk now too that she is having it in a cup.

I say just go for it.

Oliver was still having a bottle just before bed time up until he just turned two (my laziness really tbh) and there was a thread on here about the Healthy Eating Cow Cup a few of the mums said it got their lo off the bottle & I tried it & we have never looked back - I honestly think I was making a big deal of it in my mind & Oliver wasn't bothered!! He has it morning & night & like Anna07 said he doesn't drink as much milk as he used to from the bottle but he still drinks it. x
