how do you get a baby to latch on that seems to have no natural rooting reflex?
Both my babies had problems latching on, they would scream but when the nipple was in their mouth they would make no attempt to suck, occassioonally chew. we tried several posistions, waiting til they were very hungry, doing it after a good bottle feed, expressing milk so they could smell it etc with no sucess.
I wont need this advise as i'm done with my family but i know several others here have had the same experinece, seems more common that i thought, thanks

Not sure if Clare could help with this but I will ask anyway as it is related to breastfeeding. So my question is how long after a child deciding enough is enough and they wean themselves of the breast is it before they stop asking for the boob? My son self-weaned off the breast at 21 months but thjis morning he asked for a breast feed for the first time in almost 3 weeks. I do still have milk there but i don't want to confuse him by giving him the breast back. Is this normal? And also another silly question but roughly how long does it ake to dry up. I am 1 day off 13 weeks at present which is another reason why I don't what to let my son restart breast-feeding. Sorry if this the wrong type of questions to be asking

I was wondering about feeding two babes at the same time. Tandem feeding, I think it's called...

If you're feeding your toddler, and then new bubs comes along, is it colostrum that's produced, or is it just milk? If it's just milk, does the new baby get all the anti-bodies you normally get in colostrum? If the toddler is still feeding, do they 'steal' the good stuff?? I thought that babies of different ages had different types of milk from the breast, as it changes according to how they are feeding. So I don't know how tandem feeding works.

Should probably have a wee read, but I thought I'd ask what you thought

I want to be able to help folks feed both toddler and baby, without feeling they have to stop feeding their toddler.

Default Please help!

I think I am must be doing something wrong as my 5 week old baby feeds all day everyday and has been like this from birth bless her! She is sometimes sick after a feed but then within 20 mins she will want to feed again, and again and again. Her weight gain is good but she will not settle between feeds, she is also quite windy. I can sometimes (although rarely) get her to settle for a few hours if I take her out in a her pram but bar that she will cry and nothing will settle her, so I end up putting her back on the breast. Once it gets to 10pm at night she does sleep until 2 and sometimes even 5 am. What am I doing wrong? I really dont want to give up breast feeding so any help would be so great.

ImperfectMummy, and I'm sure you're a lovely mummy, I'm not an expert of any kind, but your baby's feeding behaviour sounds very normal for her age.

Imperfectmummy my little girl used to feed constantly, often for 40 minutes every hour.

I had no idea what was normal and just kept whipping my boobs out for as long as that comforted her which it always did. She was very sicky, I found it easier to keep her upright after a feed because as soon as I put her down it all came back up. We used a bouncy chair or sling to keep her upright after feeds but she never settled in the chair although she used to sleep well in the sling. We spent most of the time feeding or cuddling and my house was a stye.

It does get easier, if you are worried speak to your GP about her not settling but it sounds like you're doing a wonderful job xxx

I am very impressed with Clare. She finds ways to make all her mums comfortable and happy breastfeeding and the way she explains everything makes it so much easier to ensure that breastfeeding will be a success.

I breastfed my three children and I wish I had known Clare then !
