Potty Training

For a few weeks now my son has shown signs of wanting to be potty trained but in all honesty i have been too lazy (shameful i know!). I have finally set some time aside to attempt it just to see if he is ready or not. Im off Thurday-Sunday. Just going to see what happens really and if he seems to be getting the hang of it will have to speak to nursery on Monday.

My plan is to ditch the nappies, he helped choose some pants so will be in them and just going to stay in and brave it. I was planning to keep aksing him if he wants to go but how often should i do this. Is 30 minutes too much?

We have had a potty in the house for months now and he will sit on it clothed and also puts his teddies on it so hopefully it wont be too daunting for him.

ahh go for it. everyone's LOs and methods are different, so don't pin all your hopes on one strategy iygwim. going cold turkey is apparently the way to go, wasn't for us, we took baby steps, nappy for naps and poos etc. just experiment I suppose, if he's ready. he'll get there xxx

We tried cold turkey as Isabella decided last week she is 'not a baby and doesn't want to wear baby nappies' so let her pick pants, got her a seat thingy and a step and went for it. Was crap and she kept peeing everywhere and would only sit on the toilet. As soon as she needed to go she'd jump off and tiddle on the floor

I then bought potties in case she felt safer on these. She sits on them happily, demands to wear pants and then cries for a nappy when she wants to wee. As soon as I put a nappy on her she wees then she takes it off and puts her pants back on.

I am sooooo fed up as she throws a tantrum every day to wear pants?????????????

My lo was very aware of when he was going to the toilet and I tried to potty train him over Halloween, but he was havin none of it and just piddled on the floor beside the potty . However on Sunday he wanted his nappy off to go to potty, so we just played along and got ready to clean up more wee, then he just sat on the potty and did a great big poo We have decided to just let him use nappies when at nursery, but when hes at home he likes to go butt naked result is he uses the potty at home in the evenings.

Gonna try to pluck up the courage of potty training in nursery next week, dont think their gonna like rhys` naked approach but what the hell.

Just wanted to say Good Luck I will probably be potty training the middle of next year so I have a bit of time to wait x

Isabelle is soooo ready to be potty trained but because of the new baby I'm holding off. When at home she will consistently use her potty when she's having nappy free time or when she's decided she wants to wear pants. Yesterday morning she came into our room, took her pj's and nappy off and woke me up with 'mummy wee wee' then went into the bathroom and sat on her potty!

Today (a nursery day) she decided she wanted to wear pants first thing but luckily by the time I was getting her dressed she was happy enough to put a nappy on.

I would see how you go over the next few days, it'll become clear if he's ready or not. Good luck!!!

have you tried putting the pants on over her nappy??


i tried finley a couple of times before we had success i use to ask him every 20-30 min

Tilly has been good but did not try cold turkey. She wears the 'feel and learn' style thin pull up nappy pants as I refuse to stay in all day! She is also getting good at going to the loo in toilets when we are out and about. She has had a few entirely dry days - and a couple when she has peed in her sleep during her lunch nap, but am not too worried. She is even starting to do poos on the toilet too - but I have to leave the room when she does, or she won't go! I put a nappy on her overnight, though she will use the toilet before bed, and we are reducing drinks in the evening - making her milk earlier.

Yes but she doesn't want the nappy on full stop.

I've just been pinning her down and putting it on while she howls. Can't be doing with the dramatics
