Hi! We're all lovely of course!!

It differs slightly from place to place but you can probably expect that the therapist will talk to you about Finley's development to date, your concerns and any family history of difficulties. As well as asking about how he communicates with you and what words he has etc.

Finley will also be 'assessed'; although this is done through play at his age; they will possibly do a puzzle with him; watch some pretend play and try and get a sample of his speech. Although it's not unusual for children to be silent at the first visit!! They might ask him to do some simple commands but it will all depend on how he reacts really.

Then, they will feed back to you at the end what it all means. They will probably give advice if they feel he needs to develop his speech/language and depending on the policy/situation where you are will discuss next steps; usually advice and review in a couple of months; on a waiting list for therapy in a group/individually or discharge if there are no concerns.

Initial assessments usually last around 45mins-1 hour depending on how much there is to say!!!

Any other questions, just ask but I hope that helps for now. I hope all goes well.

xx

he says quite a bit but no were near as much as his friend the same age

he can say 3-4 word sentence but he can't seem to pronounce any thing with a c or s, and there are many things he say i don't understand which is very frustrating for me and him
