Lucas 7 months and the only times hes ever had it before last week were after his jabs (and the nurse told me to go home and give it to him IMMEDIATELY).

Im one of those people who doesnt take meds if I can help it, so I havent been giving anything to him, but after giving him Calpol this week Im torn between feeling cruel I havent given it to him earlier and feeling guilty for giving him painkillers he may not necessarily need (cathyg I know what you are saying about the type of cry, but he has been howling )

Havent given him anything tonight so far... will see how it goes.

My HV told me off for giving calpol!!! She said it should only be used for pain relief and and not for common colds. The she started on about liver damage!

If Freddie was howling, I would give him calpol, he only really has it if i can't fathom what is wrong & he appears in distress &/or is hot. When he just whingey crying, i just rub his back/tummy cuddle him etc this seems to work. If he's got a cold (snotty rose, cough etc), i would give Medised at night time (to help him sleep). After his Jabs, i gave him some calpol as soon as we got home.

I rarely give it although there have been two occasions (both teething) when I seemed to be giving her loads. Each time lasted until the offending tooth cut which was probably three days.

She now has 12 teeth bless her!
