Default She's a late walker!

My daughter is 19 months and still not walking on her own yet. She wants to walk all the time as long as she has your hand and is fed up being in the pram now if we go shopping. Last week she walked from one room to another completely on her own but as soon as she realised I wasn't holding her she burst into tears. I know that me and my brother were late walkers so she is obviously the same but it does get to me when people pass comment about it. She has been wearing proper Clarks shoes for a month now to give her the confidence and support and she is walking well with them on.

Any other late walkers out there?

If she's walking holding your hand, I think she's just a cautious child and wouldn't worry a bit. One suggestion, do you have a "walker" toy, i.e. something with wheels and a high handle on one end that she can push around? There are a million out there. Radio Flyer does one that's like a wooden wagon, and it's nice because the wheels give good resistance, so the kids really can't fall forward and have to push pretty hard: http://www.radioflyer.com/specialty/specialty_12.html (The wooden slat sides are removeable and I have our off, in case LO falls on it. Later on I will put sides on. Another bonus is that it's so stable, it doesn't slip out from under him if he tries to climb in, which he does all the time!)

Also, we had this waker toy from Melissa & Doug, and Myles LOVED it, so do all his little friends. It is called the Chomp and Clack Alligator, and when you push it the alligators snap their jaws, so it encourages the babies to walk along with it: http://www.amazon.com/Melissa-Doug-D.../dp/B000GZGE3Q

Not sure you can get either of these in the UK, but I'm sure you can find similiar. Hope that helps.

She has a walker and used to walk everywhere with it but now she doesn't get up on her feet when she has it. I feel a bit better when I read that other people have had slow walkers. She actually has more teeth than kids older than her so she has obviously been working on growing them first! Thanks for replies.

If she used to walk with it and won't now, I'd check in with the doctor just to make sure everything is OK, to be honest. xx
