Default Days out in Gloucester - Any ideas??

We are off on our holidays to Gloucester soon, Roo-on-Wye to be exact, and just wondering if anyone knows of any good child friendly days out near there??

We we may go to Longleat one day, which is still about a 2 hour drive away from where we are staying, but dont know what to do the rest of the time. Any ideas will be gratefully recieved xxx

Hi,

I live in Cheltenham but work in Gloucester!

Lots to do in the surrounding areas. I assume you are staying in Ross-on-Wye?

Gloucester city - if im honest not a great selection of shops so if its shopping you're after I would visit Cheltenham which has a lovely Promenade and pretty Montpellier Gardens

Gloucester obviously has the Cathedral which is where Harry Potter was filmed

Days out - Longleat is quite a drive and I would highly recommend Cotswold Wildlife Park. Lots for little ones to do.

Cotswold Farm Park is also great for little ones

Bourton on the water is a pretty place to visit and a lovely day out with tea shops, river and Birdland

Magicland in Cirencester is a great indoor softplay venue

Prinknash Abbey - Bird and deer park in Gloucester

hmmmm.... quite a lot on my doorstep when I think about it!

This is a great site for ideas

Wow, thank you Jewel, that is fab xxx

I keep trying to convince OH that Longleat is too far away and that we will be sat in a car for about 2 hours to get there, then we will be sat in the car going around the park, then the journey home, so its too long for the little ones to be in a car but dont know if I'm trying to fight a loosing battle. I think him and his sister (who we are going with) have already set their hearts on going

Anyway thank you so much. I have bookmarked all those so will make sure I write them down for when we go. I'm really lookiong forward to it now! xxx

I live just outside Ross on Wye, so you are very close to the Forest of Dean too. Beechenhurst is in the forest, which is good for an outdoors day- childrens play area and picnic area where you can take your own BBQ which then leads onto the Sculpture Trail which is about 2 miles long.

Puzzlewood is very close, where they film 'Merlin,' a lot. Clearwell Caves where they film 'Dr. Who,' and Butterfly Farm.

Longleat is brilliant but a really, really long day. At least 2 hours there and back and we struggled to fit everything in- but we loved it all the same. Weston super mare is also around 1.5 hours away if you fancy some beach. the forest also has a 'Go Ape,' centre if you fancy some aerial climbing- more for older children.

There is also 'Dick Whittington,' small animal park about 6 miles outside Ross; all the obligatory small animals and a soft play area too.

Monmouth is about 15 mins away from Ross- good for little independent shops, if you fancy a little shopping! Ledbury is also picturesque with lots of little shops but no so fun for LO's. Westons (the cider company) are about 10 miles away too- free farm park and play area, and then cheap cider in the farm shop (hurrah!)

Loads to do and welcome to Herefordshire! (And sorry about the state of the roads!)
