Default Toileting - desperate, please help.

Hi

Forgive me, I very occasionally pop onto the site and even less so post, but I'm hoping that someone will be able to help or has experienced the same thing. My wonderful little boy Charlie, continues to grow into a magical little person and has just turned 4 last week. He's no bother at all................except for pooing on the toilet. I can probably count on two hands how many poo's he's had on the toilet. We've tried everything from reward, to ignoring, the visiting the doctor to check things, praise etc. He's a bright little boy but has always waited until the last minute to do things, i.e. walking, talking, wee's etc. Trouble is, he starts school in September and for his sake, I'd really like him to be using the toilet by then. Already when I pick him up from nursery, his little friends sometimes comment that Charlie has had a poo in his pants.

Any suggestions and thoughts would be most welcome.

I hope that you and your little muchkins are well.

Hi Maxi,

Sorry no suggestions from me but I think they all do things at there own pace and he might just 'get it' and be sorted hopefully very soon! Sounds like you are doing all the right things to encourage him.

Nice to see you online xx

Does he tell you he wants to go? can you see when he needs to go?

Jessimae had issues and one day she just seemed to get it... lots of watching me (the shame) poo talk/wee talk we even had a poo song... massive cermonial flushing as mr poo goes of in search of his friends (the shame LOL)

Does he say why he does it?

Stay calm and lots of positive encouragement...

xxx

Hi.

I assume you have ruled out anything medical?

If so, then I think it might be really helpful if you found either a parenting group or facilitator who is trained in the Adlerian method. I have had friends with kids issues who have been helped tremendously by people trained in this thinking.

This is a site I found online just to give you a little example of what the basics of Adlerian psychology is and how it realtes to kids..
Adlerian Family Network UK

Good luck.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions. He sometimes knows when they are coming, sometimes not, sometimes he says he needs a poo and other times he says 'but it might be too late mammy'.

He says that he doesn't like poo's but he likes wee's. Also comments that wee's are for boys and poo's for girls!

Thanks again for comments - I'll keep up the conversations, whoops when he poo's and the patience.
