Default Potty training boys...any advice?

Hello,

My 4 year old daughter, Holly, was potty trained at around 2 1/2 with no bother...can't really remember much about it.....must have been lucky that it was around the time she was ready.

James is 2 1/2 but showing no signs other than he will tell me when he's had a poo (not when he is pooing) and is having longer periods of dryness and big wees. I was going to leave it a few more months and then attempt potty training in the summer.

I was just wondering if anyone had any advice.....there seems more to it with boys...what with them being able to stand up later on and 'take aim!'

As I've already been through this with Holly and have several friends with kiddies I know that there is no point trying to rush this as it will only happen when they are ready.

Anyway...any advice would be greatly received.

Thank you

Kathryn
xx

My little boy (2y 5m) took it upon himself to toilet train about 4 weeks ago. He just decided that he didn't want to wear nappies any more! I wasn't in any rush but decided to go for it.

It's been bloomin' hard work but we've finally got there although we do still have accidents on a regular basis. I also find that I have to watch him and insist on him going to the toilet when he's 'fiddling' even though he'll often insist he doesn't need to go!

I did read that you don't bother with the whole standing up thing til it's well established - in fact Oliver can't actually wee standing up yet! If we're out and he has to go in the open air he needs to squat to actually go.

I guess my advice is to wait til you absolutely feel he's ready or until he forces the issue - I nearly gave up on several occasions and wish he'd waited a bit longer TBH.

no real tips, but leave it as long as you can, boys i believe take a bit longer to learn this sort of thing, so dont force it if he's not bothered. i would go with the sitting down option until its well established too, Freddie cna just about manage standing up now, but it can just shoot off in any direction unless they properly hold it etc.
