School Admission
So Liv will be starting in September 2011 as she just misses the cut off for this years entry, but i haven't got a clue where to start with admissions! Will paperwork get sent to me, or do i need to contact the school first? I want to be quick off the mark as i want to try and get our first choice, as im sure it will be most people's! I've had a look on the government website but i couldn't find much about anything any help or advice would be gratefully received! Thanks x

Your local council will send you the paper work. Dates vary in different areas. In my area you would receive the paper work sept/oct then have it in by end of Nov. Its not done on a first come first serve basis. They then let you know what school in march/april time.

In our area you dont get paperwork, you have to be a bit psychic and apply on line. our entry had to be in by 15th sept, we were abit out and applied in feb i think. Got our 3rd place school 20 miles away

Jess was already at the school nursery so they gave us the forms for reception but with our counxil you would have to request the forms from the school admission section, your local council should have one of these to contact Di x

mine was the same. I moved in november but never got any paperwork so got a bit confuzzled but you can apply online for it!
With regards to 1st, 2nd 3rd choices, I was told that if you only put 1 choice down then thats your choice and you are more likely to be accepted. If you put a 2nd and 3rd choice down and you get one of them, its harder to appeal because you still got one of your choices iykwim?? Dont know how true it is. I only put one choice down as the closest school is 15mins away and the next school is a 30 minute walk away and there is no way Im doing that every day for the next 4 years!!!

I applied online. You get an email receipt. My mum use to work for school admissions and if u dont get in your 1st choice and u dont have other options you get sent anywhere there is. My friend has to travel 25 miles to go school until a place becomes available. x

You generally have to be psychic round here or already have kids to know what to do round here as well, really bugs me!! WIsh they just had one procedure for everyone, would make things so much easier!
Thanks everyone, from what i can find i can apply online form the 10th Sept which will beeasier than forms, but i have also found a phone number for school admissions so will call them tom just to check things over! Our nearest school is only 5min walk away, it was also my primary school so really want Liv to go there.

its a total shambles, every area is different, each school is different, Freddie can start full time in January, then will move up to Year 1 in September 2011we got sent a letter & asked to apply online, he already went to the school anyway (in the nursery section) so was confident he would get the place, but who can tell. good luck everyone getting want they want!!
