used it with dd and now ds - he only has one milk drink a day (and has done from about 9 months) so i think i will foot the extra cost to ensure he gets a good dollop of calcium in the one drink then anything else he eats with calcuim is a bonus.

i don't thinks it is a con as i think Aptamil (the one we use) would be in trouble from the governing body/food agency for baby food for making false claims. i understood baby food and milk was strictly controlled.

Maybe speak to your Health Visitor and/or GP and see what their unbiased view is?

I used Aptamil 3 for a few months with Freddie. He cut out his bf before 12 months but I got him to take that so we used it till I switched him to cows milk. Didn't see the need to use it for any longer than I did, but don't regret using it for the few months that I did.

Which follow on milk are we talking about though? A lot of formula companies call formula aimed at weaning babies (from 6months) follow on as well as the toddler milk. Toddler milk is for babies over 12 months so is different to the over 6 months stuff.

The toddler milk is just a con. They arent making false claims about what it contains thats why they get away with it, but it was only "invented" in order that formula companies can advertise as they cant advertise infant formula. This way they get their name on tv/magazines etc.

That advert with the baby and the giant cup really gets my goat - basically trying to say unless you give this to your baby they arent going to get enough iron - rubbish!!
