I always tell Liv, mainly because we drop her off at Nanny's to stay over so have to tell her! Never had a problem though, sometimes when i first tell her she's going she can be a bit whiney about it and wanting to come with Mummy, but once we get to Nanny's im soon forgotten!

we usually tell them and just deal with the tears
![]() last weekend we were at a wedding, MIL and FIL put the LOs to bed then my mum and dad came to babysit cos MIL and FIL were coming to the wedding evening do. MIL said that she wanted to get them to bed before my Mum arrived in case they had trouble getting them to settle. Anyway, Oli woke up and freaked cos it was my Mum who went to settle him. Mum had to ring me and get me to come home. If Oli had known Mum was babysitting he would have been fine, he even said the next day he did not know why Granny was there and not me , my poor baby. So i say tell him! |

If I'm going out without OH I wouldn't mention it unless it came up as he would be there if she wailed. If we are both out we pack her off to gwanny's gaff so she knows we are off out and doesn't care a jot since she gets popcorn, chocolate milk and to watch scooby doo in bed

Thanks for all your replies, seems I have been really bad by not telling him
Tonight he thinks he's just going for a sleepover at my mum's so going to leave it that way for tonight as he doesn't need to know we're not around and any problems we'd come back anyway. Will obviously tell him about tomorrow night cos he'll know we're not there!! Lol But in future when we have nights out I'll tell him before he goes to bed that whoever it is, is coming to look after him xx Thanks everyone xx |

We tell Tilly now as she is old enough not to get upset about it - we used to sneak out for a few hours after she went to bed - though she would usually already know that nanny or grandma was staying over too as they would come over early enough to have tea with her first.
Now we tell her as she likes to sit on the bed and watch while I get ready. She gets very excited and says things like, "Mummy, you DO look pretty" - bless her! xxx |

We don't tell Oliver as if it is at night he is in bed anyway. Plus it doesn't happen often enough
When hubby and i went to london for a few days and Oliver stayed with in laws because we left in the morning we just said mummy & daddy are going shopping and will be back soon. He had no concept of time at this point anyway ![]() |
