Thrush in my nipples

For the past few days I have had this rash, dry & scaly on my right boob & a tiny bit on my left side. I did wonder what it was but thought it could be due to Oliver teething & drooling so much on me or something! Anyway this rash started to spread especially on the right side, and then started to sting but it felt like more deep inside my boob. To cut a long story short I had been going back and forth to the pediatricians with Oliver last week because he was spitting up a lot & it got to the point where it was waking him up. He would wake up grunting & we would sit him up & get a burp often followed by sick. This just happened too much & I knew it wasn't right so i took him to the dr's & she prescribed baby zantac for reflux & said it's quite common in babies. A week passes & this zantac doesn't seem to be doing anything, this together with my rash worsening & now it hurts to bf him I have come to realise that I have thrush in my nipples - ouch!!! AND Oliver has it not in his mouth but in his gut which apparently gives them excessive gas so I have stopped giving him the zantac as it wasn't doing anything & the ped has prescribed over the phone nystatin medicine & we are seeing her tomorrow. Meanwhile my dr has called in a prescription for me. I heard that the thrush is very hard to get rid of & you have to take all sorts of measures to stop the growth so every time I bf it is a whole list of things to do after regarding washing my books with baking soda etc - NIGHTMARE!!! I feel really bad because I am wanting to avoid bf'ing him because it hurts so much. Did, I say somewhere in this post I was cutting a long story short!!!!!

Awww hon!!!

I strongly recommend washing your boobs and not your books LOL

That sounds like a nightmare. Hope u can fight through it and not give up on the bfing xxx

lol l'bug - thinking of me standing at the sink washing books!!! we've been up since 3.30am & Oliver is asleep on me now so hoping at least he can get some rest before we head into the city for our docs appointment.

Hi how awful for you and the lo!
Did you get some nystatin cream for your lo's mouth as well as for your nipples? You are probably best to let air at your breast too so try to sit (when noone about LOL) with your breast out. Does your lo take a dummy, if so I would advice that you throw them all out and get new ones,also really really clean in really hot soapy water and then sterilise really well all bottle and teats that you have used, also if you have expressed any milk and froze it Im afraid to say you will have to throw that out too as the bacteria will be present in the EBM too!
Hope it clears up soon, the nystatin is really good for clearing it up quickly

aww sounds awful hun. Hope it gets better soon. But im sorry to say i am pmsl at you washing books with your boobs out. LOL
