Default What do you think about buying stuff online

I buy loads of stuff on-line all the time but I have never bought a very expensive item from an unknown retailer IYKWIM.

Am looking to buy the Phil and Ted's sport buggy with doubles kit and raincover (am borrowing cocoon from friend) and have found it online for £365 which seems a good deal but from a retailer in Birmingham I have never heard of (http://www.baby-barn.co.uk/index.php).

The same thing is £420 from John Lewis online, £430 from Mothercare online and £390 from Kiddicare.

JL and MC won't price match internet prices but Kiddicare say they will so have an enquiry in with them to see if they would match the £365 as I have bought stuff from them before and think they are reputable and a safe bet (they said they'll come back within 24 hours).

I am such a worrier and my friend bought her P&T recently from Babyzoop which has now gone into liquidation so if she has any probs with it she will have to go direct to the manufacturer.

Also I just think it could be a real hassle if I had a problem with the buggy and needed it fixed or something to have bought it from an online retailer miles away and maybe it is worth paying the extra to have got it from MC or JL so could take it back locally?

What would you do?

I am starting to see why OH thinks I over analyse everything

I would phone Phil and Teds and ask them where you would stand if the company ceased trading with regard to your guarantee.

If the company are not an approved retailer I think this can affect your warranty also.

See I'm the opposite and a bit of a nightmare cos I wouldn't have even thought about any of that. I would just think wow, have found it much cheaper and order it I've done that so many times. Maybe I should be a bit more careful

Sorry, no help whatsoever xx

Exactly this, we brought from a company online and now we have a couple of rips on the phil and teds where the stitching is coming away,
phoned p&t's and because it wasn't brought from a "reputable" company we aren't covered

it would never have occured to me that manufacturer wouldn't honour warranty due to retailer not being reputable, thanks for that it is very useful to know IM and Acad.

will def phone P&T now to make sure before going for either kiddicare or the baby barn people.

Makes you realise there is def value in buying from reputable well established company like JL as even if bit more expensive could be worth it in long run.

It was Chantal who told me a few weeks ago about her warranty not being valid but I couldn't remember who had told me

I bought our pushchair from John Lewis and when this little plastic cap thing came off they posted me one straight out without me even needing to take it into store - I just rang them and described what had happened. Also John Lewis will go through putting it up/down if it's not instinctive as our Bugaboo was definitely not something you'd know without help.

if you pay by credit card then your credit card company are liable for faulty products if the retailer goes bust or is dodgy.

we bought a DVD player from trumpet electronics it was a quid cheaper than amazon but the lid broke off a few months later. Trumpet had gone bust and we had to prove to our credit card company that we'd emailed and written letters to trumpet to show we had tried to contact them to honour the warranty. Credit card company then refunded the whole cost of the DVD player! it still works so we got a free dvd player!

If you use discount code AF9 at Mothercare online it takes the price down to just under £387 wiith free delivery .

We bought our P&T from Mothercare online. We also got our Quinny from there and when the straps were too short for Ethan they sent us extenders FOC.

xxxxxxxxxx

wow thanks Ellie H that is fantastic.

That is brilliant as that means it is only about £25 more than the cheapest deal I have found but definitely worth that for peace of mind for getting it from MC.

Thanks again hun.

A xxx
