Default Goats Milk??

Hi, Freddie isn't intolerant to Cows Milk (lactose)(results confirmed negative), but it could still be the Cow milk protein. Dr has suggested i switch to Goats Milk & exclude dairy products from his diet to see if any improvements.

Anyone else give Goats milk to drink? sounds vile to me!

Gave Freddie some goats milk last night for his bedtime milk. he didn't notice the difference, so will give this a try. i had a sip too, it actually wasn't too bad, very similar to cows milk.

there is absolutely nothing foul about goat's milk and in fact it is far better for humans than cow's milk

The goats milk appears to have given Freddie the runs! he had loads of loose nappies yesterday, great! this is what i was trying to overcome. grrrrr.

OH dear. My lo is okay with cow's milk but I can't drink it so he quite often has goat's milk in his cooking and he loves goat's yoghurt (and double cream which we treated ourselves to the other day). It is supposed to be a lot easier to digest.

Was it definately the milk that gave him the runs or is he getting any teeth or showing any other signs of being unwell?

Hi

My son is allergic to Casein - a cow milk protein and i've heard that the proteins in goats milk have a similar structure to cow hence lots of children react to goats milk too. Have you thought about using fortified soya or rice milk in his foods?? I don't think they're suitable as a drink though... sorry it's not more helpful

well i tried the goats milk again last night for his bedtime drink, so will see how his nappies are today (thankfully he's at nursery - so they can deal with them! lol). The Dr only recently suggested Goats milk as it helped her son. She's hoping it will help improve Freddies, sickiness, loose poos, catarrah & excess phelgm. she has also suggested cutting out all diary to see if this helps.

how was his allergy diagnosed? Consultant at the hospital didn't think Freddie was allergic, just possibly intolerant. Apparently an intolerance can't physically be tested.

There totally right it can't.... unfortunatly the skin prick tests don't work. Ethan used to have Cow and Gate comfort milk when i was trying to get bf established - it's a whey based formula. He reacts to all dairy but is okay on that particular formula. He can't have all the usual formulas which also have casein in it....Also cheese is the worst thing for him which has a higher concentration of Casein in it. They haven't done any formal testing on him, it was more a process of elimination thing. They're pretty convinced it's casein and looking at his food diary I am too! I hope you find a milk that's suitable, i'm sure like me you're worried about calcium

from my experience if a child has allergy to cow protein ... recent tests have shown that the child will have allergy to goat protein .. apparently the same protein ... i have discovered this b/c my little one is allergic to cow protein and then same prob with soy so goat out of the question then ended up with neocate (formula of amino acids), is being allergy tested after she turns 1 to see if we can try again normal milk, cheese, yogurt, etc ... its been a year and have never offered any of these things.
Hope this helps in some way.
