Please please please please please don't give your child rice milk with added calcium. I have a nearly 4 year old, and a 15 month old, both allergic to wheat, gluten, dairy, soya and eggs. We are also under GOSH (they owe their lives to that hospital!!!) Anyways, our 4 year old has been having Rice milk with added calcium (Tesco's own, or Provamel) for about 2 years now, however last week, our health visitor received an e-mail telling her that all infants and toddlers should be taken off of Rice milk due to inorganic Arsenic being present in 60 brands of rice milk. Alternatives now are Oat milk (which our boys can't have) or Almond Milk, Oatly is available in most supermarkets, Almond milk you have to get from health food stores. Egg replacer is made by Ener-G....and I think Orgran do one too, again from health food stores. 'Pure' butter is available, they have a Soya one (the green one) and a sunflower one (yellow) if your child can not have soya. No soya causes us the most problem, as all dairy substitutes are soya, soya cheese, soya ice cream, soya milk, soya butter, it's a nightmare. Snacks...I've just found our boys like humous, with carrot/cucumber/peppers, they also love ALL fruit, Mango and Satsuma's are the favourite at the moment. Our boys have no idea what it's like to have a yoghurt, or an ice cream, or cheese. We also see a dietician at GOS and a dietician locally. Our 15 month old has neocate, and drinks it fine, he's had it for as long as he'll remember so we're very lucky in that sense, I didn't realise they do it banana flavour though, I also didn't realise it was a glucose drink....this may explain his EXTREMELY high glucose levels in his blood (7.3, 12 hours after a bottle of milk!!). We have the problem of our eldest son, is nearly 4......what do we do for a birthday cake, that is wheat, gluten, dairy, soya and egg free!!! I'm thinking milky jelly instead of a cake, in a shape of some description!!!!

Hi Claire,

I came across this site today when looking for a recipe for a gluten free wedding cake recipe for a friend who is celiac. Then I noticed that not only are the recipes gluten free but also egg and dairy free. You might find some inspiration here for a birthday cake idea there as there does seem to be a good selection of recipes.

Hi,

My 1 year old has suffered from allergies (milk and eggs) and food intolerances (soya, wheat, gluten, bananas and shellfish) from a very early age, which brought on severe eczema. Luckily since stopping these foods the eczema has cleared up. Thanks for the tip on the recipe books and I have just been making up my own meals!

In reference to the level of calcium they should be taking, Josh is also on Neocate (unflavoured) and I just mix this in with his Ready Brek for breakfast (& sometimes supper) along with an organix or Hipp fruit pot (can vary the falvours plus honey is a good one now over one). I have found Ready Brek brilliant as it has a large amount of calcium in along with other vitamins and minerals. An adult size bowl (which Josh scoffs down) provides 400mg of calcium - they only need 500mg! Although it may be a bit repetitive every morning he seems to love it! This alongside rice milk (with calcium) used in cooking should definitely be sufficient.

Hope this helps

Hi I'm new here. I feel much better now after seeing so many other mums out there who also suffer the same as me. My son is just over 1 year old now. He's allergic to wheat, egg and dairy. luckily he can still have soy. i feel so sorry for him that he can't have this he can't have that. As he is getting more aware of the food he's eating now, it's getting more difficult.

is there any good cheese out there tasts yummy? I tried the soya cheese, it tastes absolutely horrible.

Also my son is on nutramigean 2, but why all the mums here are using neocate? what's the difference?

Thanks very much.

My 13 month is allergic to egg & dairy free, i got the book mentioned above, how to Cook for rood allergys, foundation it really useful! I have been trying out the egg free recipes, as my Son doesnt get to eat anything like that otherwise! I now use mashed banana and apricot puree instead of egg. I found egg replacer useless. Book is worth getting! Good luck, it's really hard sometimes when baby can't eat these things, but you can adapt recipes. I use soya milk junior 1 yr alpro as it's more iron and calcium in cooking etc or Rice milk with added calcium too. Hope it helps.
