If child is cow protein allergy does it also have soy allergy ? only asking because mine was lactose intolerant, than went to cow protein allergy went onto soy and sick as for 4 months discovered allergic to soy .. am in Australia so went onto an amino acid formula which has none of the above ...

Ethan's allergic to both dairy and soy, i've read that the poteins are similar in structure so quite often babes are allergic to both. A friend of mine's little girl is just allergic to milk protein (Casein) and can have soy. Little duckie refuses to drink soy though - it's a bit of an acquired taste

My son is allergic to milk, but not soy. He also has an egg allergy so go carefully with introducing egg. Quite often it goes hand in hand with a dairy allergy.
Alison - why does your doctor not recommend soy milk anymore? Yikes! My son is almost 3 and that is what he has been drinking since 10 months old and the dairy allergy was discovered. Please let me know! thanks- Dana |

Sorry for butting in on the soya question but:
Apparently there is a 50% chance of your child being allergic to soya if they are allergic to milk. Plus there is a concern about soya exposure in new babies and its effect on future fertility as soya is a phyto-oestrogen (mimics oestrogen) |

Alternatives to cows milk are: Soy milk, almond milk, rice milk - look for brands labelled 'USDA Organic' as those won't contain genetically modified ingredients from pesticides. Non dairy alternatives to cheese: TofuRella cheddar flavor is harsh on the palate, though low in calories and fat compared to its dairy counterpart. Lifetime Low Fat Jalapeno Jack Rice Cheese, made from rice milk, is quite tasty and is low in fat. Dairy-free cheeses are not found as readily in the big supermarkets as the soymilks, but are available in most natural foods markets such as Wild Oats, Mrs. Green's, Whole Foods Market and others. www.wheatanddairyfree.com also specialises in home deliveries. On another site I go on there is a list of calcium rich foods. I will contact the person on there and ask if they mind me copying it here for you as it is suprising how much calcium our children are getting just in the food there are eating.
Also wanted to add that my DD is on a dairy free diet as dairy prodcuts seem to be her trigger for her cronic ectopix excema and I have been told aslong as I variou which milk I give her she is will be OK having Soya, rice, almond or oat milk. I also give her unsweetened soya milk and I add some fresh apple juice or some pureed fresh fruit to make the milk into a milk-shake |
