Post dairy free help/neocate

Hi all

I am new to this but have found it really helpful nosing through all the posts and seeing that i am not alone in this dairy free boat!!

my son was diagnosed at 5 months with a milk protein allergy, he has had all other tests which thankfully came back clear-phew!! i am struggling with dinner/lunch ideas/toast toppers. i seem to be giving him the same thing all the time. dont get me wrong there is daily variety but slowly running out of ideas. hes 9 months old and toothless still so still a sucker although is brill with solids bless him.

also, was anyone else advised no soya until a year old?
my dietician, to put in nicely....nope i cant do it.....is completely bloody useless!! al she preaches about is high calorie intake but then suggests creamy sauces and yoghurts!!!!!!! doh! i had to remind her that he is allergic and thats why we were there! soooo frustrating!

also (sorry!!) is anyone elses bubbas on neocate? we were put on that as charlie still reacted to nutramigen etc. ive read its a glucose drink-is that bad?

The doctors etc keep talking about trying him with dairy once turns 1-is that too early and do you literally go home and give it?-im really afraid of this. his first 5 months were heart breaking and im terrified to make him poorly.

sorry to babble but have nobody to discuss these issues with

xxxxxxxxx

Hi, just joined this site and seen ur post. I too have the same prob, my little boy is 28 wks and he was diagnosed with a milk protein allergy bk in march. We were given Neocate but the poor thing gags every time we give it him
To be fair it does make me want to vom! we have been waiting for an app with the dietician since march, and after ringing them up i finally got one! she gave some advice over the phone with regards to weaning and advised i try soya milk as he's turned 6 mths. He is having soya milk in foods that i cook but that is far as it goes! he won't drink it, so the only milk he's getting is from me! finding it hard now as i need to be weaning him from breast milk as i'm going bk to work soon. So we see the dietician next wk and hopefully she can suggest something, also want to know if i can try him with soya yoghurts and cheese. so confusing! our doctor said the same thing and said he would like to try milk etc again once my boy is 1. hope everything is ok with ur little one xx

Hi there

I have not been on AK for a while but thought I would pop into the allergy free section as I was one of the origional posters here!

My son is allergic to dairy (protein), eggs, soya, all nuts, potato, beans, peas and lentils. I found out when he was really young too about 6/7 months old. He is now 3 (4 in Nov).

I have my own website now with free from recipes and a facebook page where I can advise you anytime (I can help here too but I pop in less than I used too so if you are interested that is where you will find me most days)

This is my facebook page; https://www.facebook.com/pages/i-bak...t/353292627525

I was given and still use (because he likes it) a hypoallergenic formula milk called Nutramigen (you can order it from any UK pharmacy. Oat milk (I use Oat Dream) is the best thing to use as a replacement in cooking I have found and my little boy doesn't mind it at all on cereal or porridge. You can also buy oat cream (made by Oatley I believe). There are lots of other options so let me know if you need any help any time x

oh I just re read he reacted to Nutramigen! I think there are som Oat based formulas but I don't know much about those x

ps I also just read about them testing him with milk at 1 year. Well as he reacted to Nutramigen I would assume that they would do this at the hospital?! Also has he had any proper allergy tests so you can monitor him, IgE blood tests and/or skin prick tests are the best ones. Levi has this done twice a year every year because his is severely allergic to nuts and eggs and reacts strongly to the others too (But nuts and egg are his worse) He carries epipens with him at all times.

Your Dr should refer you to an allergist (if he hasn't yet then ask to be) who can give you better advice on how to deal with your son's allergies and will go through with you the meds you may need to carry with you and precautions you need to take based on his reactions so far and on tests.

I talk to a lot of allergy mum's on my facebook page as well and a lot of them have a lot of experience so as I said please feel free to shout any time for help advice and I know they will all try to advise.

You are not alone, there are lots of us and we all deal with the day to day struggles and other people'd disbelief and ignorant attitudes to allergies so we are all in it together x x x I know it's not easy girls, food should not be such a danger x x x

Default My DS is allergic to dairy, eggs, soya, nuts, peas as well

Hi, it's good to find out there are people out there also dealing with the same problems. My LO is 7 month & half. Stated eczema - a really bad eczema infection when 6 month old. Dr changed his milk and it got whole lot better. He's on Cow & gate pepti junior milk now. As my daughter had the same problem before, she was allergic to cow's milk, egg, peanut, soya and sea food at baby age, really bad eczema, so i took precaution and did a private allergic test on my son (using his hair), result came back that he's intolerant to milk, egg, rice flour, beef, asparagus, tomato, lettuce, sweet pepper, strawberry, grape and the list goes on. Drs are skeptical about it but I witnessed his reaction to baby rice, so cut it off and he was better for a while, then he had really bad reaction to peas!!!! No one would believe it first time, but tried again he got hives again and eczema flared up all over. Now food-wise, we just give him variety of veg and he can have chicken and pork which is good. My question is, when is the time to try him with food he has reaction of? Cut off all food that give him eczema - how long do we have to do this?
