I started homemade batch cooking for Rhys as he had milk protein allergy; its very hard to avoid milk and lactose in jarred and packet baby food. Just get one of the cookbook and start from there! GL!

Also, I got a series of leaflets from Mead Johnston who made the special formula Rhys was on that had recipes too: try them? Do you see a dietician at all? They gave me some info too abt what to try and when and lists of suitable produce from supermarkets like diary-free breads etc

Hi Hiann,

Did Rhys' allergy go? James has a cow's milk protein and egg allergy as well as chick pea, lentil, celery and kiwi (bless him!).

I have heard the milk and egg allergy can go when they are over 2 years old. Was this the case with Rhys?

Hi Kathryn! What age is James? Poor wee mite having all that! Never heard of lentil allergy before: that I'm sure with the milk and egg allergies makes life hard for trying to feed him and be careful abt what he eats.

We were lucky: I should have typed "intolerance" rather than allergy. Sorry for confusion. He was slowly introduced to various dairy stuff which went ok and then when he was over one, he had skin tests done which all came back ok. So then we went onto proper milk etc and milk products and havent looked back!

What you say is true: allergies can pass: they just do variuos skin tests, food to lips, food into mouth tests and wait responses whilst kid is in day unit etc.

Hiya,

James is two. He has hives around the mouth/face if he has milk or egg. However, it varies.....depends on what he eats...some things containing milk (e.g. crackers..no probs...probably because the milk has been heated to a high temp so the protein is denatured)

The lentil and chickpea allergy is quite strong....after having humus for the first time he ended up with hives all over his body. Fingers crossed he won't have the peanut allergy...apparently same family as chickpea.

It is a pain thinking what to give him...especially as dairy products are v common to give littlies. Also, everything tends to have cheese on!

Anyway, good to hear Rhys is fine. Hopefully it will calm down with JAmes as well.

Take care

Kathryn
