Default Weaning onto formula (milk protein allergy formula)

my son is 11 months old, he was premature (31wks) and he is breastfed. He has been diagnosed as having a milk protein allergy and we are trying to wean him on to formula - he refuses to drink the milk from anything (bottle or cup) although he will drink water from a cup (he also refuses to drink breast milk from a cup or bottle).

Does anybody have any suggestions on how to wean him onto this milk - he has his cereal made up with it, so i don't think that it's the taste that's bothering him...

my son refused to drink nutramigen 2 at the beginning. the only thing i did was just keep offering him the milk from the bottle, let him play with the bottle with milk in it. no water offered until he drinks his milk!

I know you've probably already tried every bottle/cup under the sun, but we found the Tommee Tippee bottles to be the only ones that my daughter would drink milk of any form from. She still won't drink milk from a cup... Good luck, you'll get there in the end. Sounds like you're doinga n amazing job x

Default Our son has milk Allergy

Just wanted to reply with hopefully some advice to make you feel better. He was exclusively breastfed

Our son is 81/2 months old and he has reflux from birth, wince waning at 6months we found out he was allergic to milk. He had creamy porridge and came out in hives. We had to wait 7 weeks for allergy test so I had to go daitemry and soya free, he is allergic to milk immediately and so i (but it takes 2 weeks for milk protien to be out of your system.)

When we are now on dairy free diet, and had to move him on to neotate. He flat refused to take it for 4 days until we put on rim of bottle vanilla essesence so he smelt that and not the formula. We also put some in formula (it was alcohol free one ordered from internet as all ones in shop have alcohol). We used mam training teat as free flowing but he can suck to (my breastflow was fast and so think bottles frustrated him we tried loads but has drunk water from Doidy since 4months old).

We had to go cold turkey with the breastmilk (which was very painful and emotional.. lots of crying an stress) but on 4th day with his Nana and me and Dad out the way he took whole bottle, and has never looked back and now cries for his formula. To wean him of vanilla we stopped putting in the bottle only on rim and then just stopped using it at all and he now eat 3 meals a day and drinks 4 formula feeds.

Hope this makes you feel better, I remember at one point thinking he'd never drink it and ringing up his dad at work crying and now have baby that cries for the formula.

Babies hey
