Default Milk Allergy - protein concerns

Hi all,

This is my first time here so it might take me a while to pick up the lingo!

My bub has a milk protein and soya allergy, he is 7 months old and was diagosed after 5 months.

At 5.5 months the dietician told me I should give him protein at both lunch and tea but since I've been doing this he has 1) become very fussy about meat and 2) not been sleeping well.

Yesterday he had just veggies for tea as I was a bit rushed and had to grab what was in the freezer and he slept fine.

AK's meal planners, which I have just got, don't often give 2 protein meals a day. So my question is whether this dietician's advice should be followed to the letter or not and whether its different for babies with allergies?

Grateful for any help

Hello

My son is allergic to dairy and eggs and although we did eventually get a referral to a dietician, they were about as much use as a chocolate teapot.

They didnt mention giving him protein twice - although this may have just been because they werent very competent. I havent heard that anywhere else either that I can recall, but my little boy is 2.5 now, so its been almost 2 years since his allergies surfaced.

I did have a really hard job weaning him for one reason and another, but he's always had a really good diet and, like all LOs, he goes through stages of liking and not liking things!

I wouldnt worry if somedays he just eats veggies, especially as you are still just in the early stages of weaning. Im sure he's just fine and you're doing a great job.

My son has a dairy allergy.
Confirmed by the allergy clinic at the hospital at 8 months

He does have a reaction to fish which i have stayed clear from, he is having some blood tests regarding that.

I have been told that he could grow out of the dairy allergies, sometimes at around 3 years old they said??

We did see a dietian too.
Who did not mention about having 2 portions of protein a day.
But did tell me to look at my lo's calcium in take.
My dietian gave me some great leafets regarding it. It tells you how much calcium is in certain fods, and what and how much he should eat.
As my lo has not really been taking as much as he needs sometimes.
He will sometimes have soya smooth yogurt, but not always.
Between 1 to 3 year old they need 6 stars aday of calcium.
The dietian has prescribed him some calcium syrup, for days when he has not had enough calcium in take.
I could post some up if it would be useful.

Thank you ladies this is very reassuring.

I am not too concerned about his calcium intake as he has been having fortified oat milk a lot and I can use that in cooking and to make custard and rice pudding which he loves. I was just worried about the protein but it sounds like its not 100% necessary to have 2 portions a day.

Thank you!
