Hi - My son got eczema at 6 weeks and got it all over his body. It was awful. Finally got him diagnosed at 8 months (so 7 months of hell...) that he has allergies to wheat, egg, soy and dairy (and it transfered through my breastmilk).
Best advice is to keep trying new things and learn to read ingredients on labels. I don't know where you are located (UK?) but here in Canada known allergens (esp. nuts) must be on the label. Things like sausages probably contain some kind of dairy or cheese as a binding ingredient. Tomatoes are very acidic so he could be just sensitive to acidic foods. Just keep track as best you can of the foods that he seems to react to and notify your doc. Keep in mind that food allergies can be anaphylactic in nature - not only nuts. I carry an epi-pen for my son even though I've never had to use it. I keep Benadryl close by if I see hives I administer it right away. As for treating the skin stuff - only wear natural fibers (cotton), and I changed all my cleaning products at home to natural products and it made a huge difference. My son wore onesies to keep him from scratching until about he was about 12 months old. Keep him covered at night (full sleepers) and get a good moisturizer (Galaxal Base) with no other perfumes or ingredients....even some natural products can have perfumes etc. I would caution against goat's milk - gave it to my son and he immediately projectile vomitted. If he is allergic to cow's milk protein - it will be any animal protein. Anyway, hope you have found some answers to a very frustrating situation....I know all about it - my son is 2.5 and he is still having hypoallergenic formula 4x a day! Good luck. |

My son has a dairy allergy. He has bad excema too.
I use oilatum j in the bath and aveeno cream. He also has hydrocortisone for when it flures up really bad. (all from doctors) I bath Leo every other night now but i do have cut it down to just about 2/3 times a week when his excema gets really bad lately. (I dont use any soap) Its been confirmed by the allergy clinic at the hospital. He had to have skin prick tests, at 8 months and recently again at 14 months. 1st time he had the skin prick tests for dairy, cow's milk, egg whites, egg yoke, dog, cat, soya, peanuts, almonds, a few other nuts, 2nd time dairy, cow's milk, egg whites, egg yoke, soya, peanuts, almonds, a few other nuts, cod, salmon, shrimp, tuna (another type of fish), tomatos. He does have a reaction to fish which i have stayed clear from, he is having some blood tests regarding that. When he was younger he use to react to tomatos in any thing, but he seems alot better now expect for raw ones. So i gave him them in sauces now. His specialist said it is quite common for the raw tomatos to cause reactions bacause of the acid in them. Since he was very young i have stayed clear from egg too, cooked in food or on it's own. His specialist has just told me to try to introduce some egg. 1st some in a cooked form like in cakes or egg pasta to see if there is any reactions, if its ok to try a boiled egg or something like that. I still have to do this. He has been given some emergency meds incase an allergic reaction happens. (No epi-pen) I have been told that he could grow out of the dairy allergies, sometimes at around 3 years old they said?? Luckly i am still BFing, but he has been given some SMA Wysoy milk (Which he won't drink. I express milk everyday so he can have breakfast the next day. Dairy is in so much stuff, im now a label reading mum Ask to see a dietian too. You need to look at your lo's calcium in take a day. My dietian gave me some great leafets regarding it. As my lo has not really been taking as much as he needs sometimes. He will sometimes have soya smooth yogurt, but nor always. Between 1 to 3 year old they need 6 stars aday of calcium. Well i may be giving you too much unwanted info, so i will stop for now. If you would like to explain anymore, please ask. I probably have forgotton to answer a few things regarding your question. Kind regards |
