Please post your allergy questions here to Dr Adam Fox, Consultant Paediatric Allergist.
Does your child suffer from eczema or a food intolerance? Food is the most common cause of allergies in children and Dr Adam Fox will be offering advice on what to look out for and how to minimise symptoms as well as answering your questions! If you would like to post a question, please provide some background information if you think that would help the specialist in understanding the problem. PLEASE keep the new thread limited to the questions you want answered. Post now... |

Isabella doesn't have any allergies but I have a question.
I understand that children shouldn't be given whole nuts until they are five. Is this because of an increased allergy risk or a choking hazard? Isabella is 2 years 6 months and has had peanut butter since she was tiny without any problems and we have no history of allergy in either family. I ask because I baked a batch of granola for me which included oats, seeds and nuts but did a seperate batch for her minus the nuts. She eats the same as us the rest of the time so this is a pain but I will continue doing this if it's necessary. I use almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts and brazils in mine would this be ok if I chopped the larger nuts up before I bake them? |

My daughter has suffered with cronic ectopic excema since she was a baby. Back in december my doctor recommended putting her on a diary free diet which I did and then almost 2 months a go he told me to put her back on diary and stop the dairy aslternatives slowly. I did this and 2 weeks a go she was back at the doctor with her excema as she was bleeding because of the excema beign so bad and no matter how soft I put her creams on her skin just broke and bleed. She was put on a steroid cream to reduce swelling, inflammation and prevent infection and I took it up-on myself to take the dairy away, her excema is now almost back tonormal but my doctor still insists on putting her back on a dairy diet. He says there is no link between excema and diary but I feel there must be a link. Should I listen to my doctor or should I fight to get her seen by my local excema specialist and dietitian to get her put on dairy free. Nothing else has changed in her diet or hygiene routine other than taking dairy away from her. I amn so confused and was wondering what you would advice me to do.
Thank oyu in advance for any help and advice you give |

I have just started to wean my DS at 18 weeks, and am working through the first tastes. All very exciting and going well, LO is taking well to the new experience, and lovess eating from his spoon.
He is however on a LF formula and I was looking for some advice on when and how to start introducing dairy products. Hopefully his intolerance was only an early developement problem. thanks |

Hi,
I have received advice from my health visitor recently to put my son on a dairy free diet for a limited time to see if it clears up his symptoms of diarrohea, wheezing, excema and constant colds/coughs. I have no problems with doing this but am looking for some advice on other sources of calcium for him and also what to replace some of his favourite foods with! He is 19 months old and loves cheese and yoghurts, are there any replacements I could get for him? And should I put him on a supplement for the vitamins and minerals he will be missing out on? Many Thanks, Amanda |

Oat, Wheat, Eggs, Dairy, Soy, Nuts: Pistachio and Cashews (probably but not sure about peanuts), Almonds and their milk.
Main meals aren't so much of a problem, although we are running out of ideas for new things and could do with some inspiration, but snacks, apart from fruit, can be tricky. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks |
