Not in any way invented by me but an amazing response whenever they are put out. Rice balls. A friend of mine who lives in Tokyo said these are extremely popular in the fussy eater cavalry. Cook shortgrain white rice until starchy and only strain slightly, then roll into marble or ping pong size spheres. She said if you use a little syrup, honey or molasses, they stick that bit better and the sweetness does appeal. Gradually, she said, other flavours can be introduced either pureed and used as a dip or mushed and rolled with them. I tried the plain rice balls last night with some garden peas and chicken pits and both girls wolfed through them! I think the shape intrigues them. I found it useful at least!
