My 15 week old is already on 9 ounce bottles every 2 hours a day and i feel he is ready for food, i've researched and found you can give ffod before 6 month but avoid certain foods. I think the 6 month barrier is silly as there's nothing wrong with my 6 year old, he's a brilliant eater.

I weaned DD at 14-weeks, because she was showing signs of being ready-to-wean (Health Visitor advice). Actually, my breast-milk wasn't good for her, and that was what was causing her to loose weight. I was then advised to stop the weaning, and start using formula. DD, however, LOVED solids, so I didn't give them up.
I took it nice and slow, though. I was on baby rice for 2-weeks, then 2-days of baby rice mixed with carrot, then 2-weeks of carrot. Tomorrow, she'll start butternut squash for one-week, then I'll move onto sweet potato for about two-weeks (until she's 5-months), then I'll start "real" weaning, where you introduce a new taste every 3-days... By 6-months (5-1/2-months), I hope to be mixing foods and on more textured, or lumpy, foods.
She's about 4-1/2-months now, and is on fruity porridge for breakfast, and 3 icecubes of carrot (make my own baby food) for dinner.
No-one will beleive me, but she has fed herself since day one...
Also, some babies are ready early (like our babies), but some aren't ready even at 7-months.
Entirely depends on the baby, so it's not silly to give the guideline, as 6-months is when babies should be wean BY (no later than 7-months, I was reading). Also, by 6-months, most babies will be ready to stomach solids, and something about the tongue-thrust reflex... DD never had a tongue-thrust reflex. Cleanest weaner I've ever met. Lol.
Anyways, hope I made sense. Lol.
