I too found the Red Velvet cake wasn't as red as I was expecting, more a kind of murky pinky brown...which sounds a bit grim! The book recommends Dr Oetker red food colouring. I had this in but it was the natural kind and I wonder whether the artificial version (presuming there is one) is stronger!?!?!? It tasted nice but was quite heavy. Rather than follow the method to the letter next time, I think I'd be tempted to just bung it all in the food processor. I think the amount of time it took to follow the instructions meant that it lost it's oomph. The cream cheese frosting was LUSH though!!!!!!
The lime pie was lush. Very rich though. My tin was probably 25 cm rather than 23 cm but it worked. Very fattening too! Good one for a crowd. It says 10 to 12 slices and it is fine for that many.
Does anyone know how much the cakes cost in the shop!?!?!?
I am going to try the vanilla cupcakes next as these seem popular and the book says that they are a best seller.....
