Isabella doesn't have any allergies but I have a question.

I understand that children shouldn't be given whole nuts until they are five. Is this because of an increased allergy risk or a choking hazard? Isabella is 2 years 6 months and has had peanut butter since she was tiny without any problems and we have no history of allergy in either family.

I ask because I baked a batch of granola for me which included oats, seeds and nuts but did a seperate batch for her minus the nuts. She eats the same as us the rest of the time so this is a pain but I will continue doing this if it's necessary.

I use almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts and brazils in mine would this be ok if I chopped the larger nuts up before I bake them?
