Annabel Karmel MBE is the author of fourteen best-selling books on nutrition and cooking for babies, children and families. Hugely influential in her imaginative approach to creating healthy food, she is helping transform diets of babies and children. Her philosophy is that the one element you can control which can determine your child’s future health is what they eat. A mother of three children, Annabel was inspired to write children’s cookery books following the death of her first child Natasha who died of a rare viral disease aged just three months. Although the illness was not diet related, the experience made Annabel determined to give her second child the best possible start in life and she spent two years researching child nutrition and development, interviewing leading UK paediatricians and child nutritionists. Her first book The Complete Baby and Toddler Meal Planner, written in 1991, has become the definitive authoritative guide on feeding babies and children and is now sold worldwide. Endorsed by Great Ormond Street Hospital, The UK’s leading children’s hospital, total sales are now in excess of several million and the book remains steadily in the top 5 list of best-selling cookery books in the UK. Since writing her first book, she has written a further 13 books ranging from Superfoods for Babies and Children. Lunchboxes, Children’s First Cookbook, Favourite Family Recipes to a comprehensive parenting guide covering all the practicalities - First Year Planner Annabel is the expert in getting your child, no matter how fussy to eat a healthier diet – without them even noticing!. She has developed tricks to get your children to improve their diet, from hiding vegetables in other foods, packing powerhouse lunchboxes and creating healthy junk food – without the need for parents to spend hours in the kitchen! Annabel’s recipe development expertise has enabled her to work with numerous manufacturers as a consultant including Marks and Spencer where she was the inspiration behind their range of chilled food for children. In August this year she launched ‘Make Your Own….’ An innovative range of equipment in Boots for making baby food including blenders and ice cube trays and a range of foods to help make it easy for mums to make their own baby’s meals. She is the children’s celebrity chef on the BBC web-site and also appears frequently on radio and television as the UK’s expert on nutritional issues including BBC1’s Saturday Kitchen and BBC2’s Working Lunch.
