What about my diet when breastfeeding?
Clare Byam-Cook saysTo give you energy and help maintain a good milk supply, you should eat and drink slightly more than usual and make sure that you are not skipping meals because you are too tired or too busy to eat. You can eat anything you want (including all the foods you avoided during pregnancy, such as soft cheeses) but do be aware that some babies react badly to certain foods and might become windy and unsettled if you eat them. The most common culprits are garlic, hot spicy foods such as curries, or excessive amounts of citrus fruits.
Annabel Karmel saysA balanced breastfeeding diet will help to ensure that your baby gets all the nutrients she needs from your milk and that you stay healthy, relaxed and full of energy. Find out more on breastfeeding foods |
