How will I know when my baby has had enough milk?
Clare Byam-Cook saysThere is no quick answer to this question! Many babies fall fast asleep at the breast before they have had a full feed so it is only by trial and error that you will learn to judge whether your baby has stopped feeding because he is full or whether he has dozed off too soon. A baby who has had a full feed (rather than a snack) should settle well in his own bed, sleep well between feeds, pass plenty of urine, gain the right amount of weight and last roughly three to four hours before he wants to feed again. If this is not happening, he is either falling asleep before he has had enough milk or he has a problem (such as colic) which is keeping him awake. |
