How can I tell when my baby has emptied my breast?
Clare Byam-Cook saysOnce your baby stops sucking effectively (long, slow & deep sucks) he has probably pretty much emptied that breast. As breasts are constantly making milk, squeezing your breast and seeing a few drops of milk come out does not mean that there is plenty of milk left – you can only really tell if your breast is completely empty by using a breast pump to see exactly how much milk is left after these few drops. But, I recommend that you only use a pump to check your breast is empty if you are worried that your milk supply is low. |

Don’t forget that there are lots of available resources for breastfeeding information including National Childbirth Trust and the Department of Health.
