Benefits for baby
|
Sticky eyes are very common in the newborn and cause much worry and struggling with fiddly eyedrops. I did not realise, until I was informed by a friend, that expressing a few drops of breastmilk straight into the affected eye would treat it. I tried it and miraculously my son’s sticky eye cleared up within hours! This treatment is used by mothers in the developing World all the time.

Breast milk is tailor-made with your very own baby in mind. It provides exactly the correct nutrients in an easy to digest package at exactly the right temperature, whenever your baby wants it! Breastmilk is rich in omega-3 essential fatty acids which are important for brain, visual and nervous system development. Breastfeeding has been shown to delay the onset and reduce the severity of allergies in children from families with a history of asthma, hayfever, eczema and food allergy. If there is a history of food allergy in your family, you should breastfeed your baby for at least six months before you start introducing solids. Breastfed babies tend not to be constipated as breast milk is more easily digested. For this reason breastfed babies also tend to suffer less nappy rash than bottle-fed babies. Recent research suggests that breastfed babies are less likely to grow into fat children. Human milk is known to contain growth hormones that help to prevent fat cells from growing. It is also thought that mothers using formula milk can sometimes overestimate the amount their baby needs, laying down a pattern of over-eating later in life. BREASTFEEDING IS ONE OF THE BEST WAYS TO BOND WITH YOUR BABY, YET WHILE 65% OF BRITISH WOMEN START OFF BREASTFEEDING, ONLY 1:5 WOMEN ARE STILL BREASTFEEDING THEIR BABY AT SIX MONTHS OF AGE. THE QUEEN, PRINCESS DIANA, MADONNA, MRS THATCHER, DAVINA MCCALL, ELLE MACPHERESON, AND PAMELA ANDERSON ALL BREASTFED. ACCORDING TO THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION ONLY 2% OF MOTHERS ARE NOT ABLE TO FULLY BREASTFEED.
