Baby Communication • Lie your baby on her tummy and dangle a toy a little off the floor in front of her or lie on the floor opposite her. This will encourage her to lift her head which will help to strengthen her neck muscles. • Give her toys that fit small hands like rattles, a two-handed rattle or toy is good at this age. • Likes to play lying under a baby gym – an activity arch with toys hanging from the bars. She’ll enjoy it if you make the toys move and play with her. Some also have lights and sounds to encourage her to reach out and try to make the toys move by herself as she grows. • Offer toys and cloth books with interesting textures for your baby to explore. • Wave a colourful scarf or handkerchief about 12 inches above your baby’s head, bring it close and then move it further away. As your baby gets older she will try to grab it. This will help to develop hand to eye co-ordination. • Attach an assortment of objects at the bottom of your baby’s crib for her to kick especially good would be a little toy that makes a noise when your baby kicks it. • Play Peek-a-Boo behind your hands or a blanket.
