Weaning Recipe - Apple, Pear & Vanilla

Apples and pears are easy to digest, so make great baby food.  They are also unlikely to cause an allergy which is why they are generally the first fruits we introduce.  Adding a vanilla pod gives the fruit a lovely flavour.  If you don’t have a vanilla pod, you could add a small cinnamon stick or a pinch of dried cinnamon to the fruit.

Weaning Recipe

Ingredients

2 dessert apples, peeled, cored and chopped
2 ripe pears, peeled cored and chopped
4 tbsp unsweetened apple juice or water
1 vanilla pod

Method:

Put the fruit into a heavy-based saucepan together with the apple juice or water. Split the vanilla pod, scrape the seeds into the pan and throw in the split vanilla pod.  Cover and cook over a low heat until tender (about 6 minutes).  Remove the vanilla pod and blend the fruit to a smooth puree.
